The German Crown of Hannover The German Crown of Hannover
On the occasion of the marriage of Crown Prince George to Princess Marie of Saxe-Altenburg in 1843 the King ordered crown jewels to be made which included this crown, made of gold, set with emeralds, sapphires and oriental garnets.

These Jewels have had a chequered life, belonging in turn to George I, George II, Geoge III, George IV and William IV - Kings of England who, having stemmed from Hanover, were also kings of Hanover. However, this changed when Queen Victoria came to the throne of England, as in Salic Law a woman could not rule Germany.

The Crown of Prussia - Miniature The Crown of Prussia - Miniature
Made by the Court Jewellers for King Frederick I of Prussia, who was crowned at Königsberg in 1701. The Crown was later used for the Coronation of Frederick William I and his son, Frederick II, better known as Frederick the Great. A frugal monarch, he insisted that the Crown was present at his Coronation but not worn.

The Hohenzollern Crown - Miniature The Hohenzollern Crown - Miniature
Made by the Court Crown Jewellers for Kaiser William II as Emperor of Germany in 1888. In 1918 Emperor William II abdicated, he was permitted to retain the family jewels including this crown.

During the Second World War, it was hidden bricked up in a wall in the crypt of a church, but was found and fortunately returned to the Hohenzollern family.

It is currently kept at the family residence of the Schloss Hohenzollern.

Although no Coronation ceremony was introduced into the Kingdom of Wurtemberg, a crown was Made in 1822 by the Court Jeweller August Heinrich Kuhn.

The crown is made of gold, decorated with diamonds, emeralds and pearls in the late rococco style.

The German State Crown - Miniature The German State Crown - Miniature
In 1871 a design and model for a new crown was created to reflect the new German Empire. The model was based upon the old Holy Roman Empire's Crown, and was kept in the Hohenzollern museum at Schloss Monbijou in Berlin, until it disappered during World War II, and has never re-surfaced.

No final Crown was ever made, however the design was used as a heraldic device for the German Kings from 1871 unrtil Kaiser Wilhelm's abdication in 1918.

In 1803 Napoleon conferred the title of 'Prince Elector' on the Margrave of Baden, who three years later declared himself to be a sovereign Prince, with the title - Grand Duke. Charles Frederick, the first holder of the title died in 1811 and was succeeded by his grandson - Charles, who received from Napoleon a set of crown jewels including this crown.

This delightful crown made in the 'Empire' style was created for Maximillian I in 1806 when Bavaria was raised to the status of a kingdom.

Designed and made by Biennais the most famous French goldsmith of the day. The crown is beautifully set with rubies, diamonds, emeralds, sapphires and pearls.
