Zoom image | This entirely diamond studded crown was made for King George IV who was crowned in 1821.
The basic crown was made by the Crown Jewellers Rundell, Bridge & Rundell, who also supplied the gems. At this time it was usual for the gems to be hired for the occasion. Interestingly, the bill for making the crown was £735, while the hire of the gems (at 10% of the value) was £6,525!
Later the stones were returned, and the unstoned shell of the crown is now on display at HM Tower of London.
