The Crown of Saxony (August II) - Miniature
The Crown of Saxony (August II) - Miniature
 Zoom image
In 1697 the Elector of Saxony, Frederick August - known as 'August the Strong' - became King of Poland. His opponent to the claim of the Polish throne was Louis, Prince of Conti, who lost the vote of the Polish Nobles, and stole the crown jewels in spite, hiding them in Lubwola. As a result a new set had to be made for the coronation in Cracow of August II, after which it was put on display in Dresden, where it quickly disappeared.

The set was discovered in 1929 and is now on display in the Royal Castle of Dresden.
