Zoom image | Not wishing to be associated with the deposed monarchy, Napoleon Bonaparte chose to be crowned on 18th May 1804 with a wreath. However, to suggest ancient lineage he had a set of crown jewels made, which he named 'The Honours of Charlemagne', which were present at the coronation.
The crown is covered with ancient precious cameos and intaglios.
