Zoom image | The actual crown of Coronation, it is made of gold, set with precious and semiprecious stones, and weighs five pounds. It is reputed to contain the gold from the crown of Edward the Confessor. During the time of Cromwell, most of the Crown Jewels were melted into coinage, but it would appear that the original crown was saved, and incorporated into this crown made for the Coronation of Charles II in 1661.
The Stud-pin is approximately 1/12th of the size of the original crown, and is designed with 3 shoulders, is fully set with Austrian crystal stones, and has a butterfly stud-pin fitting. Hand-made in England.
