The Armills

The Armills are gold bracelets, which play a traditional part in the Coronation of a Sovereign. The Charles II Armills (1661) are of gold, decorated in colour with double roses, thistles, harps and fleur-de-lis. It is not known whether they were used, either at the Coronation of Charles II or later, although they were refreshed for several Coronations, and re-enamelled for the Coronation of King George IV. They symbolise 'Sincerity and Wisdom'.

The Elizabeth II (1953) 22 carat gold Armills were made by Garrard & Co. Ltd, the Crown Jewellers, and are engraved inside 'Presented for the Coronation of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by the Governments of the United Kingdom, Canada, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Pakistan, Ceylon, and Southern Rhodesia. They are lined with crimson velvet and have a Tudor rose clasp.

They are now kept in the Jewel House at H.M Tower of London.

We offer this and many more magnificent pieces in individual pieces and in sets.
